Jakarta (ANTARA) – Clinical and family psychologist from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Pritta Tyas Mangestuti said that playing activities for children has great benefits for growth and development and behavior as adults.
Pritta explained that there are still many parents who do not want to know about the problem of child development. Not a few also scold children for using various types of household furniture to liven up their imagination.
“Even though it seems free, when children play with their toys, it is beneficial for their growth and development,” Pritta said in a webinar on Saturday.
When parents do storytelling with their children with fun and interesting stories, the little ones will absorb the various words spoken. When children are 3-4 years old, storytelling activities will train them to string glass while speaking.

Playing activities can also train social development and empathy. One of the games that can practice this ability is role play or imitate, such as being a doctor, chef, policeman and others
“Next benefit early math skill. Don’t get me wrong, one of the benefits of the game is the foundation of mathematics but not calculations,” said Pritta.
“When a child plays with filling water in a glass, for example, he will know that if he fills it full it will spill, he will be able to guess,” he continued.
Pritta also said that playing can help children regulate their emotions, understand the wishes of others and develop self-confidence.
“When playing, let the child decide what he wants to play, ask him to dare to express. This will make him confident and very important for him to make decisions as an adult,” said Pritta.
The most important thing is that playing can optimize executive functions. This is very useful when the child is an adult to control the focus of attention.
“Nowadays, there are many people doing various things at the same time, if the executive function is good then that person can control which one is the focus of his attention,” said Pritta.
“If it’s not good, he will panic when he faces something, stress levels quickly rise. All this does not grow naturally but is formed when children play,” he added.
In addition, playing can also reduce stress levels in children, fatigue, depression and increase the range of concentration while studying.
