Get to know how to handle Covid Arm, the side effects of the Covid-19 vaccine that come late

KONTAN.CO.ID – Jakarta. Since the beginning of 2021 the government has been aggressively rolling out the Covid-19 vaccine. Just like vaccines in general, the Covid-19 vaccine can indeed cause side effects.

The side effects of the Covid-19 vaccine can include low-grade fever, fatigue, headaches, and muscle aches. The side effect of the Covid-19 vaccine is the body’s response when the vaccine is doing its job to increase our immune system.

But citing a Cleveland Clinic report, the Covid-19 vaccine can actually cause an effect called the “covid arm”. What is the Covid Arm?

According to dermatologist Debra Jaliman, the covid arm is a delayed reaction to the skin after the Covid 19 vaccine. “It seems that this is an allergic reaction, a skin reaction that occurs after getting an injection,” he said.

This reaction is characterized by the appearance of large redness of the skin, especially over the area given the injection. Covid arm can also be accompanied by itching and pain when touched.

What makes this Covid-19 vaccine side effect different from the others is its emergence which only occurs five to nine days after injection. In fact, the vaccine effect usually occurs within one to two days.

Is Covid Arm dangerous?

The good news is, this Covid arm is not dangerous because it only happens for a short time. The Covid Arm occurs only as part of the immune system’s response to vaccines.

According to Jaliman, the Covid arm will usually disappear within 24 hours to a week. This reaction is also not life-threatening, only resulting in a large reddish rash on the skin.

The emergence of the Covid arm can also be a sign that the immune system is working excessively.
