Several CSTO units are said to be already operating in Kazakhstan to help maintain order and stabilize the situation in the protest-hit country after receiving requests for assistance from the government.
Then what is CSTO? The following is a brief overview of the organization led by Russia that’s what was quoted from Sputnik.
The CSTO was formed between 1992 and 2002, covering the former Soviet states of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
All participating countries agree not to use or threaten violence and aggression against any one country is seen as aggression against all CSTO members.
The alliance uses what’s called a “revolving” presidency, with each member state leading the group in turn each year.
The decision to send CSTO peacekeepers was announced by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who currently serves as Head of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
