Get to know Coconuts-2b, an Exoplanet with a Mass of 6 Times Jupiter

CALIFORNIA, iNews.id – In the sky there is a planet called Coconuts-2b. These exoplanets are quite large and can tell a lot about the history of giant planets such as Jupiter and Saturn.

“A graduate student of the University of Hawaii’s Institute of Astronomy has beaten the odds and found an exoplanet that is directly imaged, and that is the closest to Earth ever discovered, at a distance of just 35 light-years,” the university said.

Researchers have seen more than 4,000 exoplanets, and many have been found by looking for signs of decreasing brightness as a planet moves in front of its star.

The Coconuts-2b discovery was different. “This planet can be directly imaged thanks to the light emitted by the residual heat trapped since the planet was formed,” the university said. It can be seen in infrared by sensitive telescopes.
