Get to know 3 New Variants of Corona Virus: Alpha, Beta and Delta

CELEBESMEDIA.ID, Makassar – The surge in positive cases of Covid-19 after the Eid holiday continues. The most prominent spikes in cases occurred in Kudus, Central Java and Bangkalan, East Java.

In the midst of this spike, the government announced that three new variants of the Corona virus had been found, namely Alpha (B.1.1.7), Beta (B.1.351), and Delta (B.1.617.2). Variants are viruses that result from mutations.

Quoted from infopublik.id, as of Friday (6/18/2021), the three new variants have been found spreading to 12 provinces of Indonesia.

On May 10, 2021, WHO classified this virus as a variant of concern. This type of virus is also one of the most easily transmitted viruses. Generally, people infected with this variant can self-isolate.

The following are the characteristics of each new variant of the Corona virus:

1. Varian Alpha

This variant was first discovered in England. This variant is said to be more infectious, by about 50 percent, than the original strain. Another characteristic of the spread / transmission of this variant is faster than other variants.

Symptoms of the Alpha variant are not much different from Covid-19 infections in general, namely:

– Cough and sore throat

– Fever

– Fatigue and muscle aches

– Loss of taste and sense of smell

– Hard to breathe

– Difficult to think clearly

– Dizziness, malaise, and nausea

2. Varian Beta

This variant comes from South Africa. This virus was first discovered in December 2020. This variant has a different mutation pattern. This variant was discovered in Bali last May.

According to the Director of Prevention and Control of Directly Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, the Beta variant is suspected to affect the decrease in the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccine. Just like the Alpha variant, the Beta variant also has the ability to transmit faster.

Mutations in the Beta variant can increase the chances of the virus evading a person’s immune system, and can affect how effectively the coronavirus vaccine works.

3. Varian Delta

This variant was first discovered in Maharashtra, India. This variant has a number of mutational characteristics, which make it different and more dangerous than the original strain.

The Delta variant was related to the patient’s age despite the two doses of the vaccine.

The Delta variant is known to re-infect Covid-19 patients and will weaken the patient’s immune system. In fact, if you have been infected with Covid-19, the patient will get antibodies naturally.

Symptoms of this Delta variant include:

– Stomach ache

– Loss of appetite

– Gag

– Nausea

– Joint pain

– Hearing disorders.
