Jakarta –
The exchange rate of the United States (US) Dollar continues to pressure the Rupiah. The exchange rate of the Dollar against the Rupiah had touched Rp. 14,900, as of 12.05 WIB the dollar exchange rate was in the range of Rp. 14,788-14,904.
A wave of inflation will occur in the midst of Indonesian society with the continued strengthening of the dollar exchange rate. Some goods in the community will also increase, especially those imported.
Executive Director of the Center of Reform on Economics (CORE) Indonesia, Mohammad Faisal, said that one of the items that increased in price was electronic goods such as laptops and cellphones.
All of these goods went up because there were still a lot of imports. With the strengthening of the US Dollar exchange rate, the cost of importing goods will be even greater.
“That’s right, that includes (laptops and cellphones) because they are imported goods,” said Faisal to detikcom, Monday (20/6/2022).
In addition to electronic goods, the strengthening of the US Dollar exchange rate will also raise the prices of other goods that are still imported. Such as food, to vehicles.
“The impact will indeed increase the price of imported goods. Both finished goods such as food, medicine, clothing, vehicles, and others,” said Faisal.
Meanwhile, according to the Director of the Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios) Bhima Yudhistira, the increase in the price of goods at the consumer level occurred due to increased production costs at the industrial level due to the strengthening of the US Dollar exchange rate.
Many raw materials are still imported, making production costs increase. In the end, this cost increase is passed on to consumers.
“There is an increase in the production cost of the manufacturing industry. This increase in production costs, especially in manufacturing, which depends on imported raw materials, will be passed on to final consumers, it will create higher inflationary pressures in the country,” said Bhima to detikcom.
According to Bhima, some items that will increase are electronic goods, such as cellphones and laptops. Then food and beverages that have imported raw materials, to the automotive sector. These three products have large imported raw materials.
“Those who will be affected are, of course, electronics, food, beverages, and also automotive,” he continued.
