Faithful to the post Montreal International Jazz Festival is preparing its 43rd edition, scheduled from June 29 to July 8. Seats are available. On this occasion, the editorial staff presents its selection among the many artists programmed.
Herbie Hancock
A true pioneer of modern music, Herbie Hancock multiplies influences. He mixes jazz, soul, funk, rock and disco for an explosive result, while leading his career spanning over 60 years. Winner of 14 Grammy Awards, he has played with the greatest, including Miles Davis. He is also known for his sense of experimentation, which does not distort his compositions. Don’t miss his exceptional concert on July 3 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss
If the aura of Robert Plant continues to shine since the Led Zeppelin years, he has also distinguished himself by his musical works which followed. One of his most significant collaborations in recent years remains that with American country singer Alison Krauss, in the album Raising Sand in 2007. The two artists are back together on Raise the Roof, released in 2021 and their union voice always causes so many sparks. See you on July 7 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.
Ibrahim Maalouf
The Franco-Lebanese virtuoso trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf will present to the Montreal public his new titles, from his new album: Capacity To Love. He took a hip hop direction there, a culture he considered a ‘child of jazz’. A legend that has far exceeded the jazz public in France, he will come to present his compositions on June 29 at the TD stage.
Rodrigo and Gabriela
The duo of classical guitarists formed by Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero continues to spin the notes in their new compositions, present in their new album: In Between Thoughts… A New World. In addition to their respective instruments, they use in this project an electronic and orchestral element. Modern without forgetting themselves, they present themselves in a new light and retain their talent. Proof will be made on July 1 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.
Son Little
Californian soul and rhythm ‘n’ blues artist, Son Little is adept at sincere and on-point compositions. This is even more the case in Like Neptune, his latest album, released in 2022. With a characteristic voice and poignant lyrics, the soulman will not fail to move the audience of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. See you on July 5 at the Rogers stage.
Buddy Guy
After more than 60 years in the service of the blues, Buddy Guy is preparing to retire. Before that, he will pass through Montreal as part of his Damn Right Farewell Tour. This concert will also be an opportunity for the American bluesman to present titles from The Blues Don’t Lie, his latest album. See you on June 30 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier to take advantage of it.
Avishai Cohen Trio
An accomplished multifaceted artist, Avishai Cohen is preparing to set foot in Montreal as a trio, accompanied by pianist Elchin Shirinov and drummer Roni Kaspi. The opportunity to present titles from the album Shifting Sands, with multiple sound layers, worked and finely presented. The three musicians await you on June 30 at the Théâtre Maisonneuve.
Founded in 1979, this event is recognized “biggest jazz festival on the planet” by the Guinness Book of Records. This record was established in 2004. That year, the event welcomed more than two million visitors. This is an unmissable event for jazz enthusiasts from all over the world, as well as for the curious and lovers of contemporary music.
