Get Ready for Electricity Tariffs to Increase, These are 13 Non-Subsidized Groups

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The government together with the Budget Agency (Banggar) of the DPR RI plan to re-implement tariff adjustment (adjusted tariffs) for 13 groups of non-subsidized PT PLN (Persero) electricity customers in 2022.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) said that if the conditions for the Covid-19 pandemic improved, then it was most likely tariff adjustment it will be re-implemented according to the original rules in 2022.

This was conveyed by the Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Rida Mulyana.

“In 2022 will it be implemented tariff adjustment? So we agree with Banggar that if Covid-19 improves in the future, hopefully, we will agree with the DPR with Banggar, compensation tariff adjustment given only six months, then adjusted,” he explained in an interview with CNBC Indonesia, Monday (29/11/2021).

Keep in mind, tariff adjustment is the electricity tariff for 13 groups of non-subsidized customers of PT PLN (Persero). Supposedly, electricity rates for non-subsidized customers could fluctuate or go up or down every three months adjusted to at least three factors, namely the exchange rate (exchange rate), crude oil prices (ICP), and inflation.

If the three factors or assumptions increase, then the electricity tariff should also be increased according to the realization of the three factors. And vice versa, if the three factors decrease, then the electricity tariff can go down.

However, the government withheld the implementation of the scheme tariff adjustment As a result, the government has to compensate PT PLN (Persero) for the difference between the Basic Cost of Supply (BPP) of electricity or economic rates with the rates set by the government for non-subsidized customers.

In the future, he added, there will be review from tariff adjustment this. In determining tariff adjustment According to him, many parties are involved because this will have an impact on inflation, and others.

“But we, as the Director General, prepare the assumptions of funds and scenarios, the decision is of course to the leadership,” he explained.

Previously, the government had even lowered electricity tariffs (tariff adjustment) morning, low-voltage non-subsidized customers of IDR 22.5 per kWh (kilo Watt hour) to around IDR 1,444.70 per kWh since October 2020 and until now there has been no increase.

The reduction in electricity rates at that time was carried out because PT PLN (Persero) had made efficiency in all fields, both in terms of fuel and non-fuel costs, so that the Basic Cost of Supply (BPP) of electricity fell. However, now a number of commodity prices, both coal and oil prices, have increased, accompanied by changes in inflation.
