One of the most anticipated holidays of the year returns and the city prepares to celebrate Independence Day as well as enjoy the 47th edition of the Macy’s fireworks.
“We want them to come, come with their family, everyone will be safe,” police spokesman Carlos Nieves said.
To keep all New Yorkers and visitors to the city safe, the police, led by commissioner in charge Edward Caban, unveiled their security device.
There will be thousands of officers deployed throughout New York, especially at fireworks viewing points in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn.
The main recommendation is to arrive early and use public transportation, as several roads will be closed, including the FDR highway, from the Brooklyn Bridge to 63rd Street.
For a complete list of road closures check the police Twitter @nypdnews or the website nyc.gov/site/nypd/news
From the following places you can see the fireworks:
In Manhattan from the elevated points of the FDR with entrances in the first avenue with the streets 42, 34 and 20.
En Queens: Gantry Plaza State Park y en Brooklyn, desde: Newton Barge Park, Transmitter Park , Marsha P. Johnson State Park
The police will be checking the access points, briefcases, large bags, and the following items will not be allowed:
“Please, don’t bring coolers, don’t bring alcohol, don’t bring umbrellas, don’t bring chairs, all of that is to keep the area safe,” added spokesman Nieves.
There will also be several special groups deployed such as the counterterrorism group, explosive detector canines, access to 115 cameras, especially for this event, among other actions.
And the authorities remind us that public safety is everyone’s responsibility: If you see something suspicious, do not hesitate to approach an officer, call 911 or the anti-terrorism line 888 NYC SAFE.
We continue to prepare for the 4th of July!
