Cologne is colorful – especially during Pride Month. But now it’s getting even more colourful, because one of the top stars of Christopher Street Day 2023 is a shrill hit legend.
On July 7th and 8th, the CSD street festival will be celebrated in the center of Cologne, on the Heumarkt, the Alter Markt and in front of the Gürzenich under the motto “For human rights – many. Together. Strong”, while on July 9th the Christopher Street Day takes place.
Schlager star performs at Heumarkt
It gets shrill on the first day of the street festival: Schlager legend Dieter-Thomas Kuhn performs at Heumarkt. “He fills the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, that’s all we have to say about it. It’s going to be a great show,” say the Cologne Pride organizers to the “Express”. Kuhn’s best-known hits: “Above the Clouds” and “Sag mir quando”.
But also on Saturday, Tim Bendzko, a German star, is coming to the Heumarkt. The singer-songwriter from Berlin has been a fixture in the charts since 2011. His debut album “If words were my language” was in the German charts for a total of 82 weeks and was awarded gold five times. Last year Bendzko had to cancel at short notice due to illness, this year he wants to make up for his performance. “We have never experienced an artist of this magnitude approaching us and wanting to perform with us. This time it will work out, we are very much assuming that,” said the organizers.
CSD parade with record participation
The highlight of Cologne Pride is the demonstration on July 9th. According to the organizers, a record is expected among the participating groups this year. According to this, 180 foot groups and music wagons took part last year. This number has already been exceeded.
More than a million visitors came to Cologne last year. The organizers expect the city center to be full again in 2023. The Cologne CSD is one of the largest events for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) community in Europe.
