Jakarta –
The government will seriously encourage the use of electric vehicles. If there is no obstacle, electric vehicle subsidies will be announced Monday, March 6, 2023 or tomorrow.
This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan at his office last Friday (3/3).
“Hopefully next week there will be an incentive policy (electric vehicles) out, yes. Not subsidies. Incentives given to motorcycles and cars,” said Luhut.
“Yes, Monday we will see,” he continued.
Regarding the form of the incentive, Luhut was reluctant to elaborate. What is clear, he said, would be an announcement next week.
“(The form) will be announced later, just wait,” he said.
Previously, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif ensured that the policy of providing subsidies for electric vehicles would start in March 2023. Arifin revealed this certainty after holding a coordination meeting at Luhut’s office with several other ministers.
“Our plan is to get going in March,” said Arifin Tasrif at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Jakarta, Monday (20/2).
He said this subsidy was targeting conversions to electric motorbikes, buying new motorbikes and new cars. However, for cars, he ensured that they were not in the form of money.
“Conversion motorbikes and also new motorbikes also exist, four-wheeled vehicles also exist but not money,” he said.
Arifin said that by providing electric motorbike subsidies, it was hoped that it would help people have electric vehicles at affordable prices.
Arifin also confirmed that the subsidy for electric motorbikes is around IDR 7 million. “Yes, for motorbikes, the magnitude is roughly that,” he said.
