The government is still compiling criteria for vehicles using subsidized Pertalite fuel by revising Presidential Regulation number 191 of 2014. It is scheduled that the prohibition or restriction on the purchase of Pertalite will be implemented starting September 2022.
It is known that there are several proposals regarding the criteria for vehicles that will still be allowed to use Pertalite. Recently, the two types of vehicles that are planned to be allowed to drink Pertalite are cars under 1,500 cc and motorcycles under 250 cc.
The rest, for cars over 1,500 cc and 250 cc motorcycles will be prohibited from consuming Pertalite. The proposal was revealed in a Hearing Meeting between Pertamina and Commission VI of the DPR.

In the presentation material delivered by Pertamina’s President Director Nicke Widyawati, it was written that cars over 1,500 cc and motorcycles over 250 cc would be prohibited from consuming Pertalite again.
Quoted by detikFinance, Committee member of the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) Saleh Abdurrahman said that there had been no changes related to the proposed criteria for the vehicle. He also revealed that the Pertalite restriction is expected to run from September.
“There has not been (there has been a change), as before, above 1,500 is not allowed and motorcycles above 250 cc,” said Saleh.
For car models above 1,500 cc there are various, including the following:
- Toyota Corolla Cross
- Toyota Corolla Altis
- Honda CR-V 2.0L
- BMW X3
- Mazda CX-3
- Mazda CX-5
- Nissan X-Trail
- Toyota Voxy
- Toyota C-HR
- Toyota Fortuner
Meanwhile, for LCGC cars like the Toyota Calya and even the Low MPV Avanza, if the rules don’t change, it’s still safe to use Pertalite.
Among other models, cars with a capacity of under 1,500 cc are quite dominant. Citing data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) wholesales, which is classified by category, cars with engine capacities below 1,500 cc are the most in demand. For 2022 (January-May), the number reached 185,028 units out of a total of 396,153 vehicles sold from all categories.
