Get Financial Help to Move: How Employers in the US are Offering Moving Allowances

Negotiating a contract in the United States? You can ask your future employer to help you financially to move. To bring their employees back to the office and to attract talent, bosses are increasingly offering moving allowances, REMARK The Wall Street Journal.

According to recruitment platform Indeed, job postings in the United States that mention relocation allowances increased by nearly 75% last February compared to the same month in 2022.

For the American newspaper, this dynamic shows that companies believe that employees work better face-to-face and that“they are ready to pay large sums” so that employees work together, in a context of decline in telework following the end of the consequences caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Throughout the duration of the health crisis, the budgets allocated to these expenses had been largely slashed due to the confinement and the development of hybrid working methods. Companies have since restored those funds to their pre-pandemic levels.

Settle from abroad

“Relocation assistance can range from a lump sum of a few thousand dollars, to full services covering packing and shipping of personal effects and automobiles, to several months’ rent paid for housing in function”, reports the New York title.

Amounts that can quickly become substantial because “the cost of moving a new employee currently ranges on average from $19,000 [17 300 euros] for a tenant at 72,000 dollars [65 558 euros] for an owner, explain The Wall Street Journal, which quotes ARC Relocation, a company specializing in the organization of removals.

Note that moves to the United States from third countries are also increasing to reach their pre-health crisis level. In total, according to US job search engine ZipRecruiter, offers mentioning moving allowance more than doubled to 3.8 million, after falling below 2 million in 2020.
