On August 1st, the Westphalia Student Ticket will be introduced at the district’s own schools. In its June meeting, the district council gave the green light for the so-called “SchüTi”. And that brings a lot for the students: more mobility at (sometimes even) a lower price.
The SchülerTicket replaces the old Flash Ticket. For eligible pupils – i.e. those who live so far away from the school that they can get a bus ticket – almost nothing changes in price. In future you will only pay 50 cents more per month (12 euros).
All the way to Dortmund and Münster
The SchülerTicket is valid every day of the year, around the clock and not only in the Unna district, but in the entire Westphalian tariff area, which includes Dortmund, Hamm and Münster, among others. “For example, you no longer have to choose between traveling in the direction of Dortmund or Münster, because both are now easily covered with one ticket,” says District Education Director Torsten Göpfert, describing one of the advantages of the new ticket.
The SchüTi is cheaper for children and adolescents who are not eligible – i.e. everyone who could actually walk or cycle to school: It costs only 33 euros instead of 42.70 euros per month.
“Social SchüTi” is also introduced
For schoolchildren from families with low incomes, there will also be a “Social SchüTi” in future. It costs 16.50 euros a month instead of 33 euros. This ticket can always be ordered if the school authority of the school visited (i.e. the district of Unna or the city or municipality) has concluded a framework agreement on participation in the SchülerTicket Westfalen.
“Mobility is very important for young people. With the SchüTi Westfalen we are making traveling by bus and train even more attractive in leisure time – and that is not only good for the independence of older children and young people, but also for the environment, ”emphasizes Head of Department Göpfert.
