Get a voucher for the plant market and sports course at the University of Leipzig · Leipziger Zeitung

The blood bank of the Leipzig University Hospital (UKL) is holding two events in September to help save lives. From September 16 to 21, everyone who wants to donate blood will receive a voucher for entry to the traditional plant market in the Botanical Garden, which will take place again on September 21.

Another campaign is aimed at students and members of the University of Leipzig and the UKL: From 18 to 25 September, they can secure their desired sports course at the Centre for University Sports by donating blood.

Donate blood and go to the plant market on September 21

Attention plant lovers: From September 16 to 21, all blood donors will receive a voucher worth five euros for entry to the plant market (September 21) in the Botanical Garden. This is located directly opposite the blood bank at Johannisallee 32, so the idea for this campaign was an obvious one, as Prof. Reinhard Henschler, Director of the Institute for Transfusion Medicine at the UKL, explains.

“The immediate proximity of the Botanical Garden to our donation facility offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the day in nature after donating blood – and maybe even buy a green plant or two for home.” They hope that many Leipzig residents will come along who would like to “combine business with pleasure,” says Prof. Henschler. “We are very excited about the response.” The donation facility on the UKL grounds will be open to anyone willing to donate on September 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

For members of the University of Leipzig and the UKL: Donate blood & secure a sports course!

The second campaign of the UKL blood bank in September is aimed exclusively at all students and members of the University of Leipzig and the UKL. They are cordially invited to donate blood at the UKL between September 18 and 25 and, after their donation, to secure their desired sports course at the University of Leipzig’s university sports center. This collaboration with the Center for University Sports is taking place for the second time.

“We very much hope to be able to build on the success of last year,” says Prof. Reinhard Henschler. “The cooperation with the Center for University Sports in the last winter semester was surprisingly well received. Within a week, we were able to welcome over 200 people willing to donate, including 106 first-time donors.”

The head of the Center for University Sports at the University of Leipzig, Thomas Müller, is also looking forward to the new collaboration with the UKL blood bank: “This partnership has proven successful, we have received a lot of positive feedback in the past year. We are now happy to support the blood bank again in ensuring its supply mandate.”

The courses offered by the Center for University Sports are very popular with students and members of the University of Leipzig and are often fully booked just a few minutes after they are activated. First saving lives at the blood bank and then enjoying the sports course you want – that’s a win-win situation for everyone, says Thomas Müller. Those who cannot donate blood don’t have to worry about missing out: “We only reserve 50 percent of the places in a course for the campaign,” emphasizes Thomas Müller.
