I would like to congratulate the new Prime Minister of Bulgaria. In his speech, I heard almost complete overlap with the priorities of the prosecution. I just want to remind you that for the first time in 89 years, an indictment has been filed against an incumbent minister. This is a minister from the government of Boyko Borissov. This has never happened since 1989. It may be small, but it is incomparable with any previous period.

Regarding the case of the Magnitsky sanctions, you all know that charges have been brought against four people, three have been brought to court, and we have separately informed the public that pre-trial proceedings have been instituted against other people. And there the Bulgarian prosecutor’s office is doing its job. We are partners with the United States and the European Union. Sanctions under Magnitsky are not a criminal instrument, and yet the prosecution is doing its job.
“The chief prosecutor does not bring charges, does not prosecute and does not close cases. The legend must be stopped that the chief prosecutor can make decisions on specific cases. The chief prosecutor is an administrative head and cannot interfere in specific cases. The conversation between me and the president is personal.
