Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev defiantly resigned in his first official statement since his removal was called for. He said that his family was threatened and declared himself a victim of the political mafia, the oligarchy and crime.
From his words, it became clear that he refused an offer for ambassador on behalf of Boyko Borisov and was disappointed with the DPS. He mentioned that the prosecutor told him that he had to drop the Barcelonagate case.
Geshev threatened to clean up the “political garbage” and see his mandate to the end.
He briefly mentioned his frustration with DPS, but repeatedly spoke about “the person Boyko Metodiev Borisov”.
The Attorney General spoke several times of threats against him, including his family, but did not name specific names.
Geshev broke his resignation
Geshev appeared at the press conference with his resignation, then tore it to pieces and said:
“I’m not afraid, history remembers only the brave. I don’t know if I’m brave, but I’ve always done things that are right and in the interest of the people, and I do what I have to, and whatever happens.”
“I’m not afraid. Falcone said the coward dies every day and the brave only once.” Geshev said.
According to him, there is an attack of the political mafia, the oligarchy and crime.
He said he was determined to finish his term. Geshev reported that will request the removal of “the person Borislav Bobi Sarafov” as deputy of the chief prosecutor.
“I hope this is the beginning of the end of the oligarchic model. It’s time to sweep away the political garbage.” Geshev said.
He said that yesterday he was invited by 10 o’clock today to resign, his family was mentioned.
He was told that if he did not resign, “enter” would be pressed and clips would be released.
Geshev had an offer from Borisov
“It all started a month ago, I received an offer, they said it was from Boyko Borisov, to become ambassador to Turkey, Israel or to start a political career, probably in his party.” Geshev also stated.
He repeatedly called the leader of GERB “the face” Boyko Borisov and recalled that he gave a dog to Putin.
“I think the assassination attempt on me was a deliberate attempt to kill me,” said the attorney general.
Geshev disappointed with DPS
“I called a politician from GERB, whom I knew and thought was my friend. A politician – a woman. And she said: understand me. I was next to her. I heard it from her for the first time. It became clear to me that this was known to a narrow circle of people. The person Boyko Borisov and maybe 1-2 or 5 others. Here I am surprised by the position of the DPS, because they have always had a principled position.” commented Geshev.
Geshev’s statement was made in the presence of four of his deputies. Only the fifth deputy – Borislav Sarafov – is missing.

Geshev returned from the United States a day ago.
On Thursday, GERB-SDS prime ministerial candidate Maria Gabriel said that the first thing the minister of justice in her government will do is submit to the SJC a request to release the chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev for defamation of the judiciary.
The leader of the DPS, Mustafa Karadayi, described the idea as “good”, and Yordan Tsonev simply “welcomed” it.
After that, six members of the prosecutor’s collegium submitted to the SJC a proposal for the early release of Ivan Geshev as chief prosecutor. The reasons – “serious breach of official duties”.
According to the six, the grave violation was the participation of the Israeli expert in the investigation of the explosion of Ivan Geshev’s motorcade on May 1.
