Gert Verhulst about ups and downs in relationship with Ellen: “There was an immediate kind of attraction” | showbiz

It will undoubtedly not escape the attention of listeners of ‘His most beautiful songs’: Gert Verhulst’s solo album contains a number of very sweet love songs. What he found the ingredients for in his own life, he tells in the Dutch newspaper: “I wrote that song 25 years ago, long before I knew her”, he tells about the song ‘She’. “But it reflects one hundred percent what I now feel and have with Ellen. She is the most beautiful thing that ever happened to me. It was a visionary song.”

Verhulst talks candidly about their first meeting in 2007, when Ellen ran a restaurant in Blankenberge, while Gert played a big show by Studio 100 in the building next door. “Not that you really get to know each other from being served your coffee or Diet Coke, but there was an instant attraction,” he laughs. “One day I took the plunge and asked her if she would like to have a drink with me. One thing led to another.”

Remarkably enough, the Studio 100 boss also expresses himself about his romance with former K3 ‘tje Josje Huisman (35), who caused a (temporary) break with Ellen in 2012. “It has not been easy,” he says in the newspaper. “It has to do with forgiving, giving new opportunities and believing in the future. And that’s exactly what Ellen has done. The aftermath lasted a few months, but we have since turned that page. You should do that too, because if you are constantly confronted with it because it always comes up as a reproach, then that is not tenable.”
