The Luxembourg national football team will have to do without its record goalscorer in the second game of the Nations League. Gerson Rodrigues will not be in the FLF squad on Sunday (3 p.m. at the Stade de Luxembourg) against Belarus. “I will be there to support the team and hope to come back stronger and help the team,” the 29-year-old explained on Instagram.
As the “Luxemburger Wort” learned on Saturday evening, Rodrigues was removed from the squad for disciplinary reasons. What exactly happened between Thursday’s 2-0 defeat against Northern Ireland in Belfast and the upcoming second duel is still unclear.

But it is not the first time that Rodrigues has attracted negative attention. Last year, FLF coach Luc Holtz had already decided not to use the striker. Rodrigues has been criticized by many fans for his missteps. When he was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence in March for three counts of assault, many fans called for him to be permanently banned from the FLF squad.
