Gerry Weber: boss of the fashion chain resigns

The troubled fashion manufacturer Gerry Weber has to look for a new tour. Board spokesman Johannes Ehling and product board member Urun Gursu will leave the company at the end of the month due to the change in ownership structure, as Gerry Weber said.

For the time being, the previous Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Alexander Gedat, is to head the company. The Supervisory Board will now immediately start looking for one or a new CEO, it said.

Gerry Weber has been struggling with economic problems for a long time. In April last year, the chain opened a self-administered bankruptcy procedure, which it successfully completed at the turn of the year. As a result of the proceedings, more than a hundred branches were closed and numerous jobs were cut.

Chairman of the Supervisory Board thanks for “extremely important work”

In addition, the existing shareholders were forced out of the company without compensation. Instead, the financial investors Robus, Whitebox and J.P. Morgan the helm.

Even company founder Gerhard Weber, who founded the empire from the Westphalian province in 1973 with his partner Udo Hardieck, is no longer involved in the company. Weber still owned almost 30 percent of Gerry-Weber shares directly and indirectly in April 2019 and had shaped the style of the house for decades.

Gerry Weber boss Ehling has been at the helm of the ailing company since the end of 2018 and played a key role in the restructuring of the group.

Gedat, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, thanked Ehling and Gursu for their commitment over the past few years. Both had “done extremely important work for the further development of the company”. He announced that the company would stick to its strategic course. Tobias Moser takes over the chairmanship of the supervisory board.
