Gerrit Cole Throws 2-Hitter Shutout as Yankees Beat Twins 2-0 in NY

NY. Gerrit Cole pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for his fourth career shutout and second complete game in the majors this season, and The New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 2-0 on Sunday.

DJ LeMahieu homered and added an RBI single for the Yankees, who tied the four-game series at 2-2.

Cole (4-0) lowered his ERA to 0.95 in four starts. He finished off the Twins with 109 pitches in just 2 hours, 7 minutes. He got the last nine outs in a matter of 25 minutes and retired Carlos Correa, his former Houston Astros teammate, with a fly out for the final out.

It was Cole’s seventh career complete game and his first shutout since July 10, 2021, in Houston.

The other complete game in the majors this year also featured Minnesota, with Sandy Alcántara, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, pitching a three-hitter for Miami in a 1-0 victory on April 4.

For the Twins, Puerto Ricans Correa 4-0, Christian Vázquez 3-0, and Jorge Miranda 3-0. The Colombian Donovan Solano from 3-1.

Correa went 0-for-8 in the last two games of the series after hitting two home runs in the first two games.

For the Yankees, Venezuelans Gleyber Torres 3-1 and Oswaldo Cabrera 3-0.
