Manchester –
Pep Guardiola has ridiculed the Premier League over the threat of depriving Manchester City of the title. Among other things, he mentioned the moment Steven Gerrard slipped.
City face the threat of losing the title won, after being charged with violating Premier League financial rules. Since being taken over by Sheikh Al Mansour, the Blue Sky club has won six Premier League titles.
Of the many titles, The Citizens won with many memorable moments. Starting from Sergio Aguero’s injury time goal in the 2011/2012 season, until Steven Gerrard slipped in the 2013/2014 season.
“These moments are ours. They are really ours, regardless of what penalty they give us, it’s ours,” said Guardiola, reported by the Guardian.
“Goal from Sergio Agüero [pada 2012], when Balotelli gave him a pass while slipping. I don’t know if we also have to take responsibility for Steven Gerrard’s slip at Anfield. Is it our fault? I respect Steven Gerrard, but the moment was ours.”
“The moments we’ve had together these years, the Premier League will decide. I know what we won, and how we won it. I know the effort we put in. If something had happened in 2009 or 2010, it wouldn’t have changed for a second ,” said Guardiola.
The moment Gerrard slipped himself occurred in the 2013/2014 season. The Liverpool captain slipped against Chelsea, which ultimately cost Liverpool 0-2, which allowed City to turn around to lead the title race and become champions.
An investigation carried out by the Premier League for four years accused City of violating financial rules from 2009 to 2018. The threats of sanctions were not trivial, from deducting points, revoking their title, to being expelled from the Premier League.
