-Germany, where the spread of Corona 19 has not stopped, is planning to expand its containment policy until the Christmas holiday.
According to Reuters on the 13th (local time), German Chancellor Angela Merkel said he will implement a regulatory policy that will close most stores from the 16th to January 10th, next year, when the Christmas shopping season ends.
Prime Minister Merkel told reporters after meeting with representatives of 16 federal state governments, “I want to lower the level of regulation, but because of Christmas shopping, social contacts will increase considerably.”
He explained that it was “an urgent situation for regulation.”
However, essential businesses such as supermarkets and pharmacies were allowed to operate until December 16th. In addition, private gatherings of more than 5 people in two households are currently prohibited, but regulations during the Christmas holiday season will be somewhat relaxed.
Germany has taken partial blockades in the past six weeks, suggesting businesses such as bars and restaurants.
In response, Bayern Prime Minister Marcus Sinder said, “A weak level of containment was implemented, but it did not work,” and “the situation is no longer under control.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Merkel and Prime Minister Sinder drew a line that it was too early to say whether economic activity could resume after January 10th.
On that day, the number of new corona 19 confirmed in Germany was 2,200, and the cumulative confirmed number was 1.32 million. The number of deaths per day increased by 321, recording a cumulative death toll of 21,787.
