Germany’s Role in Financing Hamas and its Impact on Israel’s Security

Former Chancellor Angela Merkel once said that Israel’s security was German reasons of state. German politics must be measured by this. It is therefore very important that the tone in the Bundestag remains consistent.

The biggest problem, however, is the aid payments to the Palestinians from Germany and Europe. In recent years, billions have flowed to the Palestinian Authority. Israel has always warned that these would be used for terrorist financing.

EU payments to Palestine frozen for now

“Yesterday in the Bundestag the accusation was made that Germany was involved in financing Hamas, which is a Stone Age religious terrorist organization. Islamofascist,” said Reitz. This is a harsh accusation, but one that cannot be completely dispelled. Because the autonomous authority is “an opaque, highly corrupt association that is now being fed with money from Europe. And none of this is in the spirit of clear financial management.”

Since the Hamas terrorist act, these payments have been temporarily frozen. According to Reitz, there will not be a final stop to support.

“Payments to Palestinians have a direct impact on Israel’s security”

Both Baerbock and Development Minister Svenja Schulze want to continue these payments for humanitarian reasons. The EU is following the same course, despite the temporary stop. “It is a diplomatic signal to Israel after this terrorist attack by Hamas. You want to document that you have understood something. But no real conclusions will be drawn from this.”

Reitz believes this is wrong and calls for Israel to have the right to veto. “It would have to be so that the Europeans and the Germans only pay if the Israelis have agreed to it. Because these payments to the Palestinians have a direct impact on Israel’s security.”
