Germany’s Information Technologies Sector Faces Record 140,000 Vacant Jobs: Bitkom Association Survey

In Germany, the “Information Technologies” sector announced a sad record – the vacant jobs have reached 140,000. The data is from the “Bitkom” Association, BTA reported.

According to the traditional annual survey conducted among hundreds of Bitkom member companies, 70% of CEOs surveyed complained that they could not find qualified staff, and only 2% said they did not encounter a problem. Worse, managers don’t expect the skills shortage to improve anytime soon. As many as 77% of the respondents even fear that the deficit of IT experts will become bigger and bigger.

“This is not a temporary thing, the problem is systemic for the German economy. Too few skilled workers and too many regulations are holding back digital Germany,” said Bitcom President Ralf Wintergerst at the presentation of the annual survey.

More data from the survey confirms that the pessimism is well-founded – while a year ago IT sector companies were able to fill a job in an average of 7 months, in 2023 the search time has increased to 7.7 months.
