Germany will pay a “terrible price” for its anti-Russian policy, this opinion was expressed in article for Newsweek, historian Tariq Cyril Amar. As the author noted, in the West they say that Russia must “be defeated” in Ukraine, otherwise the entire international order will collapse, and the rise of China is a challenge, because of which it is necessary to “protect itself.” However, in reality, the biggest problem likely comes from Germany, he pointed out.
“We assumed that the first country to sag under the economic burden of the conflict in Ukraine would be Russia. However, we now see that the sanctions weapons have largely failed. The Russian economy is stable and even growing. But what if Germany stumbles first? – Amar wondered.
The state of the German economy is causing concern among Germans: they have “lost faith” in the political elite that supports foreign interests and are becoming disillusioned with the values and methods of the ruling centrists, the historian said.
According to him, the German management model is experiencing a double crisis: in the economy and in politics. There are many reasons for this, three of them are related to the conflict in Ukraine.
“First, it was widely believed that Berlin had sacrificed its own vital interests in favor of Western strategy. Secondly, there is great concern about too much loss of sovereignty. And thirdly, the consequences of recession and economic downturn are also alarming,” Amar listed.
In addition, one can also mention here the fear of an escalation of the conflict and its escalation into an open confrontation between NATO and Russia, the author continued, noting that the “destructive potential” here is “obvious.”
“Berlin will have to pay a terrible price for obediently following Western policy towards Moscow and Beijing,” the historian added.
