The measures are a result of the government introducing new laws that deprive the state authorities of the power to decide which measures they want to implement.
While many of Germany’s neighboring countries are easing the measures despite a rising trend of infection, Germany is going the opposite way and shutting down even more to get rid of the infection.
The Robert Koch Institute on Friday reported 27,543 new infections and 265 new corona deaths in the last 24 hours.

From Saturday
The new, stricter measures will be implemented from Saturday in all regions that have an infection rate of more than 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
This means extensive closures, curfews from 10 pm and strong restrictions on travel across state borders, and, if the infection rate exceeds 165 per 100,000 inhabitants, that schools can only have digital education.
Eight of Germany’s 16 states had an infection rate above 165 on Friday. The national average was 164.
In Berlin, high school students must have a negative test every day they go to school, but the school hands out quick tests they can take themselves at home before the school day.
