Germany will burn 800 million unused masks

The German Ministry of Health has issued calls for companies to “thermally destroy” the masks.

Germany bought masks worth € 6 billion at the start of the pandemic. Of these, 20 percent had quality defects. The then minister Jens Spahn was criticized at the time because excessive sums of money had been spent on mouth plugs. He then indicated the major shortcomings and the need to rapidly equip oneself with protective devices against the coronavirus.

Germany is “well prepared” for a possible crown outbreak in the fall and winter, health minister Karl Lauterbach said last month. Corona measures for that period have already been established.

Obliged

From this month, medical masks are mandatory in nursing homes, hospitals and primary care practices. In some nursing places, including nursing homes, a negative test result must also be shown.

Masks remain mandatory on trains that travel long distances, but no longer on planes.
