Germany to Reconsider Borders in March 2024 Due to Increased Migration Pressure

Germany will reconsider its borders due to increased migration pressure. Now this should happen in March 2024, German Interior Minister Nancy Feser said at a press conference in Prague.

German minister speaking about negotiations with his Czech counterpart Vitom Rakushan, said that “the defense of national borders must be justified.” She believes that at the next assessment in March the German government will decide on expanding border controls.

“The number of migrants is trending downward, but the number of asylum seekers remains too high,” she said.

According to the head of the German Ministry of Internal Affairs, control is important and helps combat human trafficking.

“Every fourth refugee tries to enter Germany with the help of some illegal organization,” she said.

Feser also recalled that the European Football Championship will be held in Germany in the near future, and in this regard, it is likely that the government will introduce stricter border controls for all its neighbors. Nancy Feser and Vit Rakušan described German and Czech police cooperation along the border as effective in preventing illegal migration. Both ministers called the rapid exchange of information important.

EADaily recalls that Germany introduced border controls with the Czech Republic in mid-October 2023 until March 15, 2024.
