“Germany to Move Patriot Air Defense Systems to Lithuania for NATO Summit”

The German Ministry of Defense announced that it will move Patriot air defense systems from Slovakia to Lithuania as part of an effort to provide security for the NATO summit that the Baltic country will host in July.

Germany will provide land, air and sea assets to help secure the NATO leaders’ summit in Vilnius on July 11-12 at the request of the alliance, according to the statement issued by the ministry. It did not provide details, but said it would deploy units currently on NATO’s eastern flank or those that could operate from Germany.

It added that Patriot units currently in Slovakia as well as support materials now in Poland would be transferred to Lithuania, bringing an end to the deployment of German Patriot systems to Slovakia, which began shortly after last year’s Ukraine war.

And the Ministry of Defense indicated that Germany will continue to support NATO ally Slovakia, Ukraine’s neighbor, with additional air surveillance radars, and offer support from the Air Force in monitoring its airspace, and more.
