It appears that cruel treatment of animals was a daily practice at Toenniec. The Deutsches Tierschutzbuero (German animal protection authority) has published a terrifying video showing the conditions under which pigs were kept.

Many animals, housed in tight cages, had serious injuries, tumors, abscesses and bloody wounds. Among the living, there are dead animals that could not withstand the terrible conditions.

Activists also found that the animals had been deliberately cut off from drinking water. This practice is known in the industry, although prohibited. The idea is for thirsty pigs to eat high-calorie food more willingly.

This is not the first scandal in this plant. German activists repeatedly drew attention not only to the ill-treatment of animals, but also to the terrible conditions of workers’ accommodation and working conditions. People were supposed to work despite their injuries. They are mainly citizens of Eastern European countries, including Poles.
