German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announces he will help Ukraine by sending various supplies of weapons to fight Russia on Saturday (26/2) yesterday.
The German government is rumored to be sending 1,000 anti-tank guns and 500 stinger missiles to Ukraine.
“In this situation, it is our duty to do our best to help Ukraine defend itself against Vladimir Putin’s army,” Olaf was quoted as saying by the Independent.
Germany has also officially lifted some restrictions on arms shipments to conflict zones. Previously Germany had a longstanding policy of banning arms exports to conflict zones.
Seeing this, the Ukrainian government welcomes Germany’s efforts. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky supported the move. Zelensky is currently still in Kiev when Russian troops laid siege to the nation’s capital.
In fact, Zelensky tweeted on his official Twitter account @ZelenskyyUa supporting the German Chancellor’s move to supply weapons to his country.
“Germany has just announced the supply of anti-tank grenade launchers and stinger missiles to Ukraine. Keep it up, Chancellor @OlafScholz ! Anti-war coalition in action,” Zelensky tweeted.
As is known, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a military operation in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine on Thursday (24/2).
Shortly after Putin’s statement, a number of explosions began to be heard in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and the city of Kharkiv. A series of explosions was also heard in Belgorod, Russia, which borders Ukraine.
