Dozens of police raided a refugee accommodation facility in the city Solingen of western Germany this evening in an operation allegedly linked to the deadly knife attack in the city.
The attacker, who killed three people at a festival in the city on Friday night and wounded eight others, managed to escape amid the chaos and panic.
A major manhunt is underway, despite the fact that police have not identified a suspect or released a clear description of the attacker.
“We have received information and are currently carrying out police action,” a police spokesman said in reference to the investigation.
A special task force has been deployed, and many police officers have cordoned off the area.
According to Reuters, the police made an arrest.
Islamic State claimed responsibility
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The group said one of its members was the perpetrator of the deadly knife attack and acted to “take revenge” on Muslims “in Palestine and everywhere else”.
“The perpetrator of the attack against a gathering of Christians in the city of Solingen is a soldier” of the Islamic State, the jihadist group said in a statement published by its Amaq propaganda organ.
