Germany Plays Special 1000th International Match against Ukraine for a Good Cause

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – The German national soccer team is playing its 1000th international match this Monday in Bremen – and it is a very special one. Opponents in the Weser Stadium will be Ukraine from 6:00 p.m. (ZDF), the German Football Association will use the proceeds from the game to make donations to the country attacked by Russia. The national players of national coach Hansi Flick will appear with special jerseys that can be auctioned.

“We’re playing against a country that’s in a very difficult situation, so it’s a sign for us,” said Flick on Sunday in Frankfurt/Main. In terms of sport, the 58-year-old will test a game system with a three-man chain in front of Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, and Werder Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug was given a starting eleven guarantee by the national coach for the game in his home stadium.

The still ailing Timo Werner and the Champions League finalists Ilkay Gündogan and Robin Gosens, who will only travel to the DFB selection on Wednesday, will be missing.
