German managed to advance to the final FIBA World Cup 2023 after overthrowing United States of America. Die Mannschaft will meet with Serbia in the final match.
Germany faced the United States in the semifinals of the 2023 FIBA World Cup which took place at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay, Manila, Friday (8/9). Germany successfully secured a ticket to the top match after a dramatic 113-111 win.
The duel was tight from the first quarter. Germany opened the match well.
They had a 10 point lead at 25-15. However, the United States can catch up led by Austin Reaves.
Reaves’ three-pointer made the score tied at 29-29. Germany ultimately only led by one ball 33-31 in the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, the United States gained momentum to regain the lead 39-37 after Anthony Edwards’ three-point shot. A chase for numbers then ensued. The United States narrowly led 60-59 at halftime.
Germany appeared charming in the third quarter. They were able to take the lead again and then move away 82-75.
Andreas Obst became the engine of Germany’s unstoppable attack in the third quarter. Germany led 94-84 when the quarter ended.
The United States clearly tried hard to catch up in the deciding quarter. Edwards and Austin Reaves scored several important points to bring America closer to the gap.
The United States was only half a ball behind at 108-107. However, Obst’s three-pointer and points from Schroder put Germany ahead 113-107.
The four points scored by Reaves were not enough to force the match to continue overtime. Germany won 113-111.
Germany will meet Serbia in the final. Serbia secured their final ticket first after beating Canada 95-86 in the semifinals.
