ANNOUNCEMENTS

Chancellor Scholz has opened Germany’s first LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven in northern Germany. The liquefied natural gas supplied by sea is converted into gas at a floating terminal, after which it is pumped into the German natural gas grid.

The plant was installed in a record time of ten months. “This is the pace at which the new Germany is building infrastructure. Let it be an example for building many, many other projects,” Scholz said.

Four more LNG terminals are to be completed by the end of next year. After the loss of supplies from Russia, all the terminals together should be able to meet a third of Germany’s natural gas needs. The Dutch Gasunie is also involved in the construction of the Brunsbüttel terminal.
