Manila (AFP) – Germany reached the final of the Basketball World Cup for the first time in its history, after defeating the United States, the five-time champion, 113-111 on Friday in Manila, setting up a match on Sunday with Serbia, which defeated Canada 95-86.

The best result for Germany was third place in the 2002 edition, while the American team failed to continue the journey towards a sixth title in its history, knowing that it played the tournament without the most prominent stars of the NBA, being content with a auxiliary list led by coach Steve Kerr.
The United States will miss the final for the second time in a row, after being crowned in 2010 and 2014, knowing that its participation varies from one version to another in terms of the appearance of NBA stars, most of whom preferred to rest after the end of last season.
The score remained close in the first half, until the Germans widened the gap in the third quarter to 12 points, after errors by Josh Hart and Jaylen Brunson.
However, the Americans narrowed the gap in the final minutes (107-108) thanks to Anthony Edwards, the Minnesota Timberwolves player (23 points, 8 rebounds) and Austin Reeves (21 points), before the Germans regained the initiative in the final minute, led by Dennis Schroeder (17 points, 9 assists). Current Toronto Raptors and former Los Angeles Lakers playmaker.
Andreas Obst (Bayern Munich) was the best scorer for the winner (24 points, including four three-pointers), while Franz Wagner, the American Orlando Magic player, added 22 points, and Daniel Theis (American Indiana Pacers) added 21 points and 7 rebounds.
