There’s still a lot of work to be done before our next summer fairy tale!

Conceded 208 days before the start of the home European Championship next year (June 14th to July 14th). Julian Nagelsmann (36) suffered his first defeat on his home debut as national coach in the Berlin Olympic Stadium – 2:3 against Turkey.

After the two games at the start of the trip to America (3:1 against the USA, 2:2 against Mexico), Nagelsmann loses in the very place he wants to return to in less than eight months. In the best case scenario, he stands with his DFB selection in the European Championship final in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

But there is still a lot to do until then…

The first big surprise comes with the setup! Havertz starts as a left-back. Otherwise, the Arsenal star can be found in the attacking midfield.

According to BILD information, this has already been tested in games during training.

Nagelsmann before kick-off on RTL: “We have different formations depending on the height of the opponent and how they defend. Kai won’t always be in this position. This is a very good option. He won’t always play as the classic left-back you might know.”

First of all, the daring experiment works!

5. Minute: Henrichs plays a perfect through ball to Sané, who crosses into the middle. Havertz just has to push in there – 1-0.

After the goal, the German fans chant “away win”. There are numerous Turkish fans in the stadium who whistle at the German team every time they touch the ball.

This is particularly difficult for Ilkay Gündogan (33)!

In his 72nd international match, the Gelsenkirchen native will meet his parents’ home country for the first time. The Barcelona star is still closely linked to the country through his family and supports aid projects, such as after the earthquake disaster.

Gundogan: “My grandparents, parents and other relatives still live in Izmir, Turkey, and I also have many friends there. I try to travel to Turkey at least once every year.”

In the 70th minute, goal hero Havertz was unlucky!

The left-back is hit on the spread left arm from close range. After the VAR advice, referee Bartosz Frankowski points to the spot – a controversial decision. Sari doesn’t care, he converts to make the final score 2:3 (71′).

The Turks turned the game around before the break – because the right defense of the German team around Henrichs and Sané wasn’t quite up to speed.

38. Minute: When a long ball hits, Henrichs stands too high and Sané loses sight of Kadioglu. The left-back thanks him and shoots the ball into the near corner to equalize – 1:1.

45. + 2 Minute: Henrichs moves in on Yazici, but can’t get to the ball. Yildiz is free at the back and welds the ball in with the help of the crossbar and post to take the lead – 2-1.

After the break, the DFB team responded promptly. After winning the ball on his own penalty area, Wirtz dribbled forward across half the court and passed to Füllkrug on the left, who hit a hook and hit the left corner – 2:2 (49th).

In the end, not enough to prevent the first bankruptcy under Nagelsmann…
