Berlin (epd). Germany joins the international “Alliance for Feminist Movements”. The alliance of governments, international organizations, foundations and civil society groups supports local women’s and human rights organizations worldwide, as the Federal Development Ministry announced on Saturday in Berlin. “No country in the world has yet achieved real equality,” explained Development Minister Svenja Schulze (SPD). Everyone would benefit from this, not just women. “There would be less hunger, less poverty and more stability in the world.”
The alliance was launched at the 2022 UN General Assembly. It includes philanthropic organizations, the national governments of Canada, France, Sweden, Great Britain, Netherlands, Ireland, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Malawi, as well as international members such as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the EU Commission.
Last year, the Federal Development Ministry presented its strategy for feminist development cooperation. The aim is to strengthen the rights, resources and representation of women and marginalized groups. Women should have equal rights, for example when it comes to inheriting and owning land. They should have equal access to resources, for example in the education system. And they should be equally represented in offices and committees as men.
