Germany is under threat. Warning of a market collapse

The signatories of the letter called on the government to pay attention to the deteriorating situation. “The automotive industry is threatened with a collapse, collapse of the supply chain” – they emphasize.

“Destructive market barriers, production downtime due to a lack of components and drastically higher energy costs are turning into a ruinous mix for suppliers. And they could threaten Germany as a business location,” warned Bernhard Jacobs, head of the sheet metal industry association (IBU), in a letter written jointly with others associations that are suppliers of parts and components for the automotive industry.

“The current situation is very dangerous for the medium-sized supplier structure,” explained Jacobs.

The lack of components forces car manufacturers to reduce production, which, according to the associations, causes them to drop their sales by over 30%.

The associations also point out that, especially at this difficult time, “a close alliance between the automotive industry and suppliers” is needed. They also stress that “the state should do something to reduce energy costs for companies.” Anyone who now leaves suppliers alone without support poses a threat to Germany as a business location, the associations warned.
