Christian Democratic Party (CDU) leader Friedrich Merz was re-elected party leader with 89.81%.
In his election in 2022, the leader of the CDU had received 95.3% of the vote and 90% had been set ahead of the congress by officials as the limit in order not to question the suitability of Friedrich Merz as the chancellor candidate of the Christian Union (CDU /CSU) for the 2025 elections. “Today’s figure is the way to the chancellorship for Friedrich Merz,” said Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretzmer and praised his leader for his “strong, confident and substantial” speech .
Together with Mr. Mertz, the party’s general secretary Carsten Linnemann was re-elected, with a percentage of 91.4%.
