The Alternative for Germany (AfD) continues to lose ground in the polls, but remains in second place, while none of the traditional parties appear to be benefiting. On the contrary, above the entrance threshold to the Bundestag, the newly formed “Alliance Zara Wagenknecht” (BSW) seems to be consolidating.
According to a poll by the INSA Institute on behalf of the BILD newspaper, the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) remains the first force with 30% and a loss of one unit from the previous measurement, while the AfD follows with 18% and also a loss of one unit. Indicatively, in January the AfD collected 23% in the same poll. The Social Democratic Party (SPD), on the other hand, gains one unit and reaches 16%, followed by the Greens with 13%, the BSW with 6% and the Liberals (FDP) with 5%.
“Politically and numerically, the most likely government coalitions could come from a CDU/CSU-SPD or CDU/CSU-SPD-Greens partnership. At the same time, the BSW already has twice the percentage of the Left, to which it belonged until recently. The Christian Union is stronger than the SPD and the Greens combined, and the Greens with the FDP gather a percentage equal to that of the AfD alone,” points out the head of the INSA Institute Hermann Binkert.
