German authorities have decided to expel more than 20 Russian diplomats from the country. As a response, Russia has decided to expel the same number of German diplomats, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow announced in a statement, BTA reported.
“The authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany have decided on another mass expulsion of employees of the Russian diplomatic missions in the country. We strongly condemn these actions of Berlin, which continues to demonstratively destroy the entire Russian-German relations, including their diplomatic dimension,” said the statement of the Russian department.
“As a countermeasure to Berlin’s hostile actions, a decision was made on the Russian side to expel the same number of German diplomats from Russia, as well as to significantly limit the maximum number of employees of the German diplomatic missions in our country,” adds the Russian Foreign Ministry, noting , that the German ambassador to Russia was officially informed about this during his conversation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow on April 5, 2023.

More than 20 German diplomats must leave Russia as a countermeasure to the expulsion of employees of the Russian diplomatic missions from Germany, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced on the air of the TV channel “Zvezda”.
German magazine Focus reported on March 25, citing sources in the German Foreign Ministry, that Federal Foreign Minister Analena Berbock plans to declare more than 30 Russian diplomats accredited in Berlin as persona non grata.
According to the publication, German security forces believe that these diplomats appear to be taking advantage of their diplomatic status to illegally obtain political, economic, military and scientific information and use it for sabotage and disinformation.
