Germany exceeds 50,000 cases diagnosed with Covid-19

Germany, the fifth country with the most diagnosed covid-19 cases, now has 52,547 infected patients, up 3,965 from the previous day, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

The entity responsible for disease prevention and control also indicates on its official website that there are now 389 fatalities, an increase of 64.

According to the director of RKI, the German health system is at risk of reaching its limits during the covid-19 pandemic.

The federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Baden-Württember remain the most affected.

“We have to count on the fact that our capabilities may not be enough”, admitted Lothar Wieler in an interview released today in the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”.

Regarding the differences in lethality rates, registered in Germany and Italy, the director of the Institute Robert Koch points out that it is mainly due to the large number of tests carried out in the country.

“People infected at the beginning were not among the risk groups, the contagions were linked to snow holidays, for example. If more contagions happen in hospitals or nursing homes, the proportion can increase ”, warned Wieler.

The new coronavirus, responsible for the covid-19 pandemic, has already infected more than 640,000 people worldwide, of whom more than 30,000 died.

Of the cases of infection, at least 130,600 are considered cured.

After appearing in China in December, the outbreak spread worldwide, prompting the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a pandemic situation.
