News sources said delivery is possible in October or November if orders are placed immediately. If, according to the decision of the German government, “everything possible will be done”, then from the third quarter of this year, one “Leopard 2” tank will be delivered per week.
FAZ also learned that Germany is considering the possibility of supplying Ukraine with 29 more Leopard 2 tanks, which are currently destined for Slovakia and the Czech Republic. This would be possible if the Slovak and Czech governments agreed to such a redistribution. In that case, Slovakia and the Czech Republic would not receive these tanks this year, but from the beginning of 2024 three tanks per month.
News sources in the industry also informed that the German arms production companies “Rheinmetall” and “Krauss-Maffei Wegmann” could deliver additional infantry fighting vehicles “Marder”, armored personnel carriers “Fuchs” and older battle tanks “Leopard 1” by the end of the year. These companies currently have 88 written-off Leopard 1A5 tanks, of which 80 can be repaired. 20 such tanks could be ready “within eight months from the moment of the order”.
Regarding the 40 “Marder” infantry fighting vehicles, which the German government has already promised to Ukraine, industry representatives said that 20 of them can be delivered by the end of April, while the rest must be sent from the Bundeswehr’s warehouses. If an order were to be placed, 10 combat vehicles per month could be procured from July.
Ukraine could also receive 40 newly manufactured armored personnel carriers “Fuchs” from the middle of the year.
