In Germany, forensic scientists have confirmed that the lampshade from Buchenwald is indeed made of human skin.
As he writes Bild, in April 1945, a German political prisoner named Karl Straub found a small lampshade made of human skin in one of the houses of SS officers. From 1954 to 1990, it was displayed in the museum on the site of the concentration camp as a symbol of Nazi atrocities. However, after German reunification, the lampshade was removed for ethical reasons. However, experts doubted whether it was really made from human skin. Then it was suggested that it was still made of plastic.
Now, forensic biologist Mark Beneke spoke at a press conference at the Buchenwald Museum. He said that the results of forensic and microscopic examinations confirmed that the material from which the lampshade was made “can only be human.”

“We deliberately do not show human remains in our exhibitions, although they are in our collection. In fact, they should be buried for reasons of humanity. But since they are also evidence of Nazi crimes in concentration camps, we store them,” the museum explained the situation with the lampshade .
