Germany: Clashes between Coronersceptics and Berlin Police

Berlin police on Wednesday (November 18) used water cannons and pepper spray to disperse demonstrators. Earlier, she dissolved a protest rally against the new anti-infection law for mass violations of coronavirus regulations, incl. no masks.

From early morning, demonstrators gathered around the cordoned Reichstag building and the Republic Square. The Berlin daily “Tagesspiegel” wrote about five thousand. people. During the day, this number increased significantly.

Coronersceptics demonstrated in the government district of Berlin against the coronavirus restrictions passed by the German parliament on Wednesday. The majority of parliamentarians voted in favor of the law on protection against infections. The AfD called for the bill to be postponed.

Many participants did not follow the rules of maintaining a safe distance and were without masks. Police appeals were unsuccessful. “Our requests to wear masks unfortunately have no effect,” the police wrote on Twitter. “If that doesn’t help, only the solution to the manifestation remains,” he added.

Shortly after 12 the police disbanded the demonstration. As many of the participants refused to leave the protest site, the police used water cannons.

Officers were attacked with bottles, stones and pepper spray. Police officers also used pepper spray. Some of the attackers were detained.

Observers of the events speak of an “extremely aggressive mood” among the demonstrators.

According to the DPA agency, demonstrators are still resisting the police.

2,200 police officers from Berlin and nine other federal states and the federal police are involved in the action.
