A bridge partially collapsed overnight in Dresden, eastern Germany, with no casualties, rescue services said today.
A roughly 100-meter section of the Karola Bridge, which connects Dresden’s historic old town with other parts of the city, sank into the Elbe for an as-yet-unknown reason, Dresden firefighters said.
The entire zone has been cordoned off and no traffic is allowed on the river, Dresden police said via X. Residents were asked not to approach.
Rescue services are on the scene and are working to contain the damage to prevent other parts of the bridge from collapsing, Fire Department spokesman Michael Claret told AFP.
The part of the bridge that fell into the Elbe involved tram lines and pedestrian traffic. The part of it used by vehicles has not been affected.
The partial collapse of the bridge also damaged two heating pipes, causing outages in the area.
