Summer weather is currently hardly noticeable in Germany. Instead, storms with heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail are expected in some regions.
Kassel – After the heat wave, dark clouds and rain showers are moving over Germany: Autumn is currently in the Federal Republic. There is little sign of summer – this also applies to the Kassel region. Not only sporadically, but nationwide, people can expect a lot of rain until August. Now the rain showers and cooler temperatures are joined by storms.

The German Weather Service (DWD) reported that warm and humid air masses are flowing into Germany from the south-west, which means that the unstable weather will continue. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are already expected on Friday (July 28), with heavy rain even threatening in some regions. This affects, among other things, the area from Potsdam to Frankfurt (Oder).
Strong thunderstorms with showers and small-grain hail can also descend in the south of the country. Heavy rain of up to 30 liters per square meter is expected in places. Around Freiburg, the DWD warns of gusts of wind with speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour.

In coastal regions, on the other hand, longer and dry sections are possible according to the DWD. After all, the temperatures remain mostly summery: Up to 20 degrees were predicted for Friday at the sea, on the upper Elbe even up to 27 degrees are expected.
Improvement is not in sight on Saturday (July 29th). Isolated storms with rain showers and thunderstorms are possible. Only in the evening do the weather experts from the DWD expect a gradual improvement in Germany from the west. The maximum values are between 21 degrees on the North Sea and 27 degrees in Lusatia and Lower Bavaria.

The storms then move towards Poland on the night of Sunday (July 30th), only in the south and southwest are further showers and thunderstorms reported. In the course of the day there should also be thunderstorms and rain again in the north and north-west. According to the DWD, the maximum values rise to 20 to 26 degrees.

Even with the beginning of the new week, summer is not coming back for the time being. It will continue to be cloudy with partly prolonged rain on Monday (July 31). Meteorologist Jan Schenk von The Weather Channel predicted a “changeable week”. So summer is currently taking a break. A few weeks ago, weather experts had predicted a very warm and at the same time dry summer of 2023. “The whole thing will probably last until mid-August.
