Germany: Attempt to set fire to the Reichstag. The police are looking for perpetrators

Last night (June 29), unknown perpetrators attempted to burn down the Reichstag building – the seat of the German parliament and the symbol of the city with a characteristic glass dome.

The fire was noticed shortly after midnight. Unknown perpetrators probably have deliberately chosen a place to put on fire: chipboard is currently replacing the glass pane of windows on the east side of Friedrich Ebert Square.

According to the capital daily “BZ”, the disc was poured with flammable liquid and set on fire.

The police managed to prevent the fire from spreading and put out the fire quickly before the fire brigade arrived. According to a guard spokesman, the action, which was initially called for 50 rescuers, ended after 30 minutes. Nobody was hurt.

Because the Reichstag building is under special protection, initially more firefighters were called in than were ultimately necessary, explained the fire brigade.

Unknown perpetrators managed to escape. It has not yet been determined whether the fire cameras have registered the fire attempt. The search for perpetrators continues.
